Today is a Sunday, but it isn't just any ordinary Sunday, it's another of those Hallmark Holiday Sundays that are made up for the sole purpose of making Hallmark rich. Seriously, why does there have to be a special day for everything in the Universe--mothers, fathers, children, etc? I wouldn't be surprised if there was a National Pet Day.

I actually do see the purpose for Father's Day, and I'm not against it, but I am extremely against a father who doesn't want anything whatsoever to do with his kids even after he gets remarried, and who only does want anything to do with his kids when there is a big accomplishment at stake like graduation or some other obstacle/challenge that has been overcome so that he cam take credit for all that he *hasn't* done for his kids to get them there. I'm sorry, but my success has had little to do with my father, his influence has been very minimal.

Even though he isn't exactly my father, my grandfather has always been there for me, which is something I'm truly appreciative of. Despite being as Republican as they come, (which can make for very interesting/challenging political discussions let me tell you), he has always been supportive of me and my dreams/goals in life. He's always interested in me and what I'm doing, and especially in the whatever new piece of technology I happen to have purchased at the time. It's unfortunate for my dad that he missed out on so much, but I'm just glad to have my grandfather, who really does care. Even if he did vote for Dubbya, I won't hold that against him :).

I have no idea what the plans for today are. We were going to take the dogs swimming, but the weather is kind of cloudy and chilly, so I'm not sure if that is still the plan or not. Either way, I'm sure I'll find something to do. I went to the library on Friday and got five books, so that should keep me busy scanning for awhile.

I also went to a technology fair on Friday and saw different kinds of technology. Most of it I had already seen, but it was still cool to see everything, anyway. They had a Pac Mate there, and of course the first thing I did after I turned it on was play Jawbreaker. That game is very very addicting, but it's fun, so I guess it all balances out, maybe? I only played one game, because I wanted other people to see it, and I managed a score of four hundred something. I've done better, but it wasn't has good as some people's scores that's for sure :). I've actually decided that instead of a laptop, I'm going to get a Pac Mate. I just see myself using one more, and it comes with a very nifty Braille display that I can use for either the Pac Mate or the computer respectively. Sure, I have a BrailleNote, but the Pac Mate can sync better with a computer, and it can run off-the-shelf programs, unlike the BN. I'm looking forward to getting it sometime soon, and no, I'm not getting it just to play Jawbreaker, I can't help that that's a bonus.

I have now run out of update-worthy material, so I'll go post this and perhaps find me something to eat soon. My mom is vacuuming the downstairs, so both dogs are up here in my room with me actually behaving themselves for once, amazing! More soon.

Hey:

Yes, Jawbreaker is a game for the Pac Mate.

As for scanners, I have an Epson something-or-other, maybe a 1649? I don't know offhand. It has a document feeder, which I don't use all that much. It isn't as fast as dome, which can be slightly annoying at times, but it works and gets the job done, so I guess it all balances out in the end.

Ah, okay. And do the books look ... I mean ... I don't want to say perfect, bu you can read them okay, right? I haven't used scanners fo ages, and when I did I was about eight, which was about seven years ago, and everything was all messed up and garbled and whatnot. So I don't know much about how they've improve or anything.
Hahah questions questions...Sorry!
XOXOXOX,
Caitlin

Hey:

Yeah, the OCR recognition of the software has greatly improved. THer are sometimes still errors, but for the most part, things are readable. If not, you just tweak settings until they work at least somewhat better than original. lol
I hope that helped. ANy more questions, feel free to ask. Oh, and I originally put that I had an Epson 1649, but I actually think it's an Epson 1640--it was a typo, I'm sorry! lol I hate it when I do that!

Haha okay. Well, maybe I should look into getting a scanner. It might be cool to be able to scan my own books and materials. Hmmm. Will have to discuss thsi with parents.
Thanks for all your help!
