Random Quotations
2008:

“Sometimes you're afraid to become a couple because you are afraid of losing what you already have with that person. But life is all about risks and it requires you to jump. Don't be a person who has to look back and wonder what they would have, or could have had. No one waits forever.”
-(Anonymous)

"No problem is too small or too trivial if we can really do something about it."
-Richard Feynman

"Death is a friend of ours; and he that is not ready to entertain him is not at home."
-Sir Francis Bacon

"The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible."

"Love the moment, and the energy of that moment will spread beyond all boundaries."
-Corita Kent

"Never let the demands of tomorrow interfere with the pleasures and excitement of today."

"When you leave college, there are thousands of people out there with the same degree you have; when you get a job, there will be thousands of people doing what you want to do for a living. But you are the only person alive who has sole custody of your life."
-Anna Quindlen

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing."
-David Beckham

"Imagine a world in which generations of human beings come to believe that
certain films were made by God or that specific software was coded by him.
Imagine a future in which millions of our descendants murder each other over
rival interpretations of Star Wars or Windows 98. Could anything --
anything -- be more ridiculous? And yet, this would be no more ridiculous
than the world we are living in. "
-Sam Harris, author (1967- )

"What greater thing is there for two human souls than to feel that they are joined... to strengthen each other... to be one with each other in silent unspeakable memories."
-George Eliot

"At the end of the day, whether or not those people are comfortable with how you're living your life doesn't matter. What matters is whether you're comfortable with it."
-Phillip C. McGraw

"Love is the ability and willingness to allow those that you care for to be what they choose for themselves without any insistence that they satisfy you."
-Wayne Dyer

"Many people miss life because they are waiting for something great. It only happens through small things: eating your breakfast, walking,,, taking a bath, talking to a friend etc. Small things are what life is
made of. When you collect one pebble, it is a pebble. When pebbles are together, suddenly they are diamonds. That's the miracle of life."
-Osho, One pebble at a time

"I can't give you a sure-fire formula for success, but I can give you a formula

waiting, and we feel - nothing at all. The best things arrive on time."

-Steve Pavlina

"True humor is fun - it does not put down, kid, or mock. It makes people feel wonderful, not separate, different, and cut off. True humor has beneath it the understanding that we are all in this together."
-Hugh Prather

"Heavy hearts, like heavy clouds in the sky, are best relieved by the letting
of a little water."
-Christopher Morley,
writer (1890-1957)

"My friend is one... who take me for what I am."
-Henry David Thoreau

"With the gift of listening comes the gift of healing."
-Catherine de Hueck

"Acceptance is not a state of passivity or inaction. I am not saying you can't change the world, right wrongs, or replace evil with good. Acceptance is, in fact, the first step to successful action. If you don't fully accept a situation precisely the way it is, you will have difficulty changing it. Moreover, if you don't fully accept the situation, you will never really know if the situation should be changed."

"We can only learn to love by loving."
- Iris Murdoch

"Reveal not every secret you have to a friend, for how can you tell but that friend may hereafter become an enemy. And bring not all mischief you are able to upon an enemy, for he may one day become your friend."
- Saadi

“We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations.”
- Anais Nin

"Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."

- Jules Renard

"If you're here for four more years or four more weeks, you're here right now. I think when you're somewhere, you ought to be there. It's not about how long you stay in a place, it's about what you do while you're there, and when you go, is that place any better for your having been there?"
- Karen Hall and Jerry Stahl

"Reading maketh a full man, conference a ready man, and writing an exact man."

"Victory attained by violence is tantamount to a defeat, for it is momentary."
- Mahatma Gandhi

"Civilization is the encouragement of differences."
- Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869-1948)

"If any one faculty of our nature may be called more wonderful than the rest, I do think it is memory. There seems something more speakingly incomprehensible in the powers, the failures, the inequalities of memory, than in any other of our intelligences. The memory is sometimes so retentive, so serviceable, so obedient; at others, so bewildered and so weak; and at others again, so tyrannic, so beyond control! We are, to be sure, a miracle every way; but our powers of recollecting and of forgetting do seem peculiarly past finding out."
- Jane Austen

The calm man rarely makes mistakes.
When thousands are failing, he succeeds.
You must be calm to be successful.
Those who do not observe the sabbath by feeling this divine peace
develop great moodiness.
Take time to meditate and be silent.
Through the portals of silence the healing sun of wisdom and peace
will shine upon you.
Take time to be calm...
-- Paramahansa Yogananda

"You don't read a book to appease the author; you read a book because you want to. And it is my strongly held opinion that a book becomes richer and more vibrant when we read it closely and think hard about it."

"appreciate every breath, every morning, every hug, every smile. never wake up and wish you hadn't. one day you won't. the human body is the most intricate miracle. dont abuse it. find goodness in others. rid those in your life who taint it...your life is too short to waste on them. once a day, step back and realize the gift you have been given. stress out, relieve it, and let it go. cry, laugh, yell, scream, smile, hug, kiss, and serve a purpose."
- Anonymous

"There are people whom one loves immediately and forever. Even to know they are alive in the world with one is quite enough."

I didn't get as many books read in 2008 as I would have liked to, but I hope to change that in 2009. I'm going to reread all seven Harry Potter books, starting very soon, in preparation for the sixth movie coming out in July.

I'll post a regular update shortly. For those of you who read even some of the above, it's appreciated. I'm just happy to share. I think those two lists will become a yearly tradition from now on. Take care, all, and Happy New Year! More soon.

Thanks for posting this... I really enjoyed reading it! Where did you find the Debbie Macomber books? I don't recall seeing them on Book Share or the NLS site...

Hey, no problem. I read those books in hardcopy Braille from NLS. I would think they'd be on Web Braille, too. Maybe not, though.
