I'm alive, really

I am alive, honest. I just haven't updated in awhile. Not much has really gone on in all truthfullness. The weekend was very relaxing, spent hanging at the apartment. I hung out with my family on Sunday and even did a little shopping yesterday. I've not done as much reasing as I would like, but I am still reading The Hobbit. Great book the second time through, not that I was expecting anything different.
I spent much of the weekend following political/Gustav coverage as well. THankfully Gustav wasn't as bad as it could have been, but still, it's horrible to think about. I haven't kept tabs on the other hurricane-like disturbances that were cropping up at the same time - Hanna and Ike - so perhaps I should do that at some point to learn of things. As for All Things Political, the republican convention has definitely stirred things up, what with it being shortened and all, at least on Monday. I listened in some last night, but turned it off. Tonight is the vice president's acceptance speech, which I do plan to listen to. The whole topic of her being picked as the candidate in the first place is something I won't go into here. I do have my views on it, though, you can be sure. Tomorrow is McCain's acceptance nomination speech, which I will be listening to as well. I also have my views on him as a candidate, which won't be discussed here either, in this entry at least.
I think that's about all for me for now. My sister and I are going to go over and help friends fold and mail out newsletters for Blind Sports Organization, which is estimated to take up much of the afternoon. Liv will be coming with me, and there will be other canine and feline company there as well as a fenced yard, so she should have fun :). More later, possibly tonight. Curse writer's block, I really do miss writing regularly...

Date: 2008-09-03 07:58 pm (UTC)I’ve known that Sarah Palin was being vetted for the VP slot for weeks, but I didn’t think she would actually get it. I have mixed feelings, but all in all I’m excited about the selection. The more I learn about her, the more I like. And I find we share the same principles, especially when it comes to being socially conservative.
The typically biased main-stream media is viciously going after her and her family in ways they never go after Democrats, but I think that will backfire. Americans are waking up to how much the MBC’s of the press are in the tank for Obama. I’ll be glued to the TV tonight during Governor Palin’s speech and I’d be curious to hear how well you think she does.
To be objective, I thought Hilleary Clinton did extremely well during her speech last week at the Democratic convention. She achieved what she set out to do. My understanding is that Bill Clinton did a remarkable job as well, but unfortunately I missed it. He spoke earlier in the evening than I thought he was going to.
Anyway, I’m really pumped about the Republican ticket. I’m sure that doesn’t surprise you considering some of the content of my journal. You must be mortified to have an evil Republican like me as a friend. Don’t tell anybody you know me. LOL.

Date: 2008-09-04 04:03 am (UTC)Thanks for your comment. As for the convention, I've caught some of it, including tonight's Palin speech as well as Mitt Romney's and a few others that spoke tonight, although I caught bits and pieces of those. I have to digest Palin's speech in full before I make any comments on it. I will say that there were some things said that I don't think should have been said and some things I didn't agree with, but her message was very clear. I should catch you on messenger sometime to talk more about it. I'd be curious to your thoughts on it as well. As to Bill Clinton's speech, if you're still looking for it, I have a link to it in one of my latest blog entries entitled "2008 Democratic National Convention."
I'm probably as pumped about the Democratic ticket as you are about the Republican one, but it's all good. Lol! Oh yeah, and you aren't evil :).
Take care.

Date: 2008-09-04 09:39 pm (UTC)Speaking of last night, I was thoroughly impressed with Governor Palin’s speech. The gloves definitely came off, but I didn’t feel there were any shots made below the belt, (although, I can see how Democrats wouldn’t have been thrilled with her comments). Not only do I admire her views, her record, her spunk, and her lifestyle, it’s such a thrill to have the first woman Republican nominee on the presidential ticket. You could say it’s a bonus. And the best part? I believe our pick for Vice President is even more qualified than Obama for President. She’s a breath of fresh air, and yet comes to the table with some executive experience.
Thanks for the link to Bill Clintons’ speech. I did want to listen to it. Tonight’s the big finale, and I’ll certainly be tuning in for that. Sorry if I seem a bit dramatic. I’m just very excited, and after all the ups and downs over the past eight years, it’s a good feeling to have.
