I haven't written since I believe two days ago, so I figured I'd change that.
Yesterday didn't consist of a whole heck of a lot, aside from reading more of Pratchett's Sorcery, programming, and relaxing. Kristen and I went to our grandparents' last night to visit, which was enjoyable.
Today has been somewhat interesting that's for sure. I had meant to get up at six--actually planned to in fact--so that I could be ready and have Liv ready by seven as she needed to be dropped off at the vet between 7:00 and quarter to eight. I set my PacMate alarm, but due to I'm guessing a certain checkbox that I guess I had to check to sound alarms and notifications, the alarm never went off, said checkbox or whatever it was not having been checked. I woke up at what I thought was a little before six, (I'm accustomed to waking up a few minutes before alarms actually go off), waited for the alarm to go off, but it didn't. I figured that maybe I had slept through it or something--which wasn't too cool--but no, apparently it hadn't sounded at all. 'Cr'r'r'r'r'r'r'rap!' Ah well, things were all good, and we dropped Liv off to have her teeth cleaned.
I was called later in the day and told that while having her under anesthetic, the doctor had found that two of her back molars were apparently infected and they wanted to do an extraction. THis was not the news I had been hoping to hear I can assure you, and especially not after they called me back with the estimate--$937 and some such cents! My mom actually answered the call, but when she informed me of that, my first thought was something along the lines of 'What the crap????!' Needless to say, I didn't go ahead with the extraction--I most definitely and perhaps obviously do *not* have $937 on me at the moment. She got her teeth cleaned, though, which is a good thing.
I really did think that quoted amount of money was absurd, so I called Dr. Sandler, (the Guiding Eyes vet), to get his opinion. He called me back and informed me that that price is--believe or not--actually on the cheap side. He said that one option I could take would be to perhaps see if a regular vet would do it for less than would a dental vet. I'll do the procedure, that's not the issue here, the issue is obviously finances at the moment. I can probably save some of my SSI money to help pay for it, but I also have to pay my grandfather back for the money he loaned me for school, something which is of equal importance to me. I'm going to see if I can write a letter to one of the local blindness organizations around here to see if they might know of any organizations who could perhaps help finance this. Liv's teeth are somewhat bad as it is, but the vet did give me a few things that will help her feel more comfortable in the short term should pain escollate or something. I want to see if I can get the procedure done in the next few months or so should the finances magically present themselves. These are times when I really wish I had more of an income... Part of me just feels really bad, like this was my fault, like I could or should have done something to prevent it...I'm a bad Mommy!:(.
We took Katerina to the vet this afternoon to get some bloodwork done, and we picked up Liv then as well. Dr. McGregor said that Liv was "a bit of a noodle" when coming out of the anesthesia, trying to jump out of the cage, whining and generally being feisty. Her recovery was apparently rough, so much so that they had to give her a sedative to calm her down. Somehow that didn't surprise me all that much knowing my Liv as I do :). The afteraffects/wearing off of the sedative has left my dog quite calm and dopy, however. I feel quite bad for her. I don't think she's too comfortable; she keeps walking around, trying to find a place to settle. She was also whining a lot earlier I guess to express her discomfort, poor girl. She did get to eat earlier, after not having had food since yesterday, and she was glad of that. I imagine she'll just chill and keep it low for the rest of the night, as will I come to think of it.
Tomorrow I have a mobility lesson around 2ish, but I think that's my only obligation I think. I just hope Liv feels better or and well enough to work. Right now, I'm not sure if she will be, but I guess I'll know in the morning. I'll also probably work more on my programming assignments tomorrow as well, that is if my professor gets back to me. I'm on various stages of completing the project, but have run into various errors, and don't know how to fix them on my own. Compiling source code is fun? Um no, not exactly...
Oh, also today I opened up a checking account at Wilmington Trust, the local bank here, which was cool. I have blue checks, so that's kind of neat. I also got the CDs my friend Pat mailed me today, which was awesome as well--I need to thank Pat for them when I see him next :).
Alrighty, I think I'm out. I'm just on Ventrilo now after having completed the second episode of Match Game which, in my opinion--and probably others' as well--didn't go as well as the first. I'll most likely read later and do who knows what else. Later guys, more when I have it.
