A little of this and more of that
Jun. 24th, 2010 09:41 amI haven't written in what feels like forever, and many things have happened in the meantime. Here goes…
My week in Illinois proved very successful. I got everything that I needed to accomplish marked off of my to-do list, perhaps the most important of which is an official place to live, (I.E., I signed the lease to the townhouse). . Well okay, so the house and classes take the same priority of importance. Speaking of classes, I have a schedule set out, (technically21 credit hours, although if all goes well I'll be a GA for three of those), and I even have a good number of books for most of my classes, too. Yay for being super productive and on top of things! To any Bookshare people: What does it mean when, on a book's information page, there isn't a download link and it instead says 'status: live'? I'm already logged in at this point. I'm a little confused on what this might mean or who to contact and ask about it. If anyone could shed some light, I would be forever appreciative.
The train trip to and from Illinois was definitely interesting, the ride back being a whole lot smoother than that going out. Needless to say, flights have already been booked for my trip out on August first. The train was an experience, but I really want to fly this next time. Back to the train, the Amtrak workers were very nice about my needing to take my dog out, and I was nice and coordinated taking her out when we were stopping for long periods, anyway. If there was an emergency and she had to go, then that would be different, but I wasn't trying to be annoying and difficult. Speaking of my dog, a field rep from Guiding Eyes will come out next Thursday, July 1, and I'll have a yearly follow-up visit. Everything is still going well with Liv, except she did blow two crossings yesterday, which left me slightly concerned. I really hope it isn't anything too too major. I'm sure I'll get it figured out. Her work for the rest of the day and lately has been very good, so I don't think it's lack of wanting to or anything. Heck, she survived two 27-hour train trips! Even so, it's hard not to think of the R word in the back of my mind given my dog's age. It's also hard not to be overly worried about it. As I said, I'm sure I'll get it figured out. That's why they have guide dog trainers, right?
I had thought I had more to update on, but I'm drawing a blank. I think I had mentioned going to see Rush in July in a previous entry, but that is no longer happening. The trials and tribulations of not being able to drive and the one person who was going and could drive not being able to... Oh well, it happens. No hard feelings. At some point this summer I hope to go down and spend a weekend at my grandparents' trailer with the family, which is about 1.5 hours from my mom's house and twenty or so minutes from a beach. I really want to go fishing as it's somewhat of a summer tradition. I need to see if I can break my fishing record of two years or so ago. My mom was the only person to catch a fish last weekend when she was down, but it apparently wasn't bigger than the one I caught previously, so I still hold the Fishing Queen title. Boardwalk fries are another must-have while down there.
I think that's about it, although I'm most likely forgetting something. I hope all of you are well. If anything interesting or earthshattering happened that I should know about, feel free to let me know. Take care all, more soon.
