Merry Christmas
Dec. 25th, 2006 07:54 pmAs per usual, this is my Christmas entry on December 25. I've done one for the past two years, and I wasn't about to stop now.
My last update was a voice post, which really didn't have too much by way of substance in it. I pretty much just said that I hadn't been doing too much besides reading, relaxing, and spending time with the family. I had dinner with my uncle last week at the grandparents', which was fun and very enjoyable. I also finished up Christmas shopping, which is a very good thing.
Yesterday was Vhristmas even, and our anual dinner and church with the grandparents. The menu was the same, sausage soup and the added peperoni bread which wasn't to be had last year, which both Kristen and even Kathryn thought was spicy. I don't really know why--well, okay, so there is capacola included in the recipe--but I really didn't think it was spicy at all. Go figure... The soup was good also, although one of these days I should really add some tabasco to it; that would definitely give it an extra little zing. We had Christmas cookies for dessert, which reminded me again of the fact that no baking has occurred in this house in that regard yet this year.
After dinner, my sisters and I did our traditional gift opening of the gifts bought for each other. From Kristen, I received a small toy bird in a wire cage that sings and spins around, some lifesaver storybook that doesn't have the little book inside it, (apparently they don't do that anymore and the story is written on the box itself), and some coffee and tea. Kathryn gifted to me a really small travel Braille clock that I had seen and thought would be nifty to have and a small hand massager that should definitely prove useful. All in all, I think we were all happy. I got Kristen the DVD set of the Peanuts' movies; Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and also mitten-shaped postit (sp?) notes. I got Kathryn a lantern flashlight thing, (it supposedly floats, and I really wanna see that...), as well as a Ginimi Cricket stuff animal.
Church followed shortly afterwards, and the service was good, as always, the usual singing of "Oh Holy Night" being one of the highlights, as was the duet sung of "Sileng Neight", and also the candelit version of that song where we all held candles. Another favorite is the choir's singing of "How Should A King Come". Having sung in the choir before, I couldn't help but sing along, even though I guess I wasn't technically suppose to. The one thing that surprised me was that the traditional departing hymn of "Joy to the World" was scrapped from the program this year, I think also to the surprise of the choir director and choir. Ah well, it was still good in the end, finishing up with "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem", even if I didn't really know the words to that song and would have preferred the other.
We cane home last night and just hung out. Another thing done differently yesterday was that we started opening gifts sporadically throughout the day so as not to be late to Christmas breakfast as is our custom. Every once in awhile, Mom would yell out, "TIme to open a present!", and we would all three come down and that would be that. We finished that up this morning, and we actually did end up getting to breakfast on time, even if we had left a tad later than we'd intended.
I received many nice things, for which I'm glad. I got some clothes, CDs, (one of which is a Cuban-Classical mix, definitely cool!), a Celtic bracelet that is similar to one of the rings I wear, bath products, and gift cards. I'm probably forgetting some things, but in all honesty, Christmas really isn't about what gifts I get or how many, at least to me. Probably the biggest surprise of all was from my boyfriend, the first five seasons of the TV show Le Femme Nikita. I honestly had no idea that was going to happen, and he most definitely didn't have to, but he did, so I guess that's that. I most definitely appreciate it and am of course thankful. Ah yes, I also received a new luggage piece, which will be getting its first use quite soon, and a nifty little purse.
Breakfast this morning went well, despite the annoyance of the fact that the three little kids, (my cousins), sat at the Adult table while their mom and dad sat at the Kid table. I was honestly truly annoyed at that, and I was most definitely not the only one. When we were younger, we all had to sit at the Kid table, so why can't they? They drive me nuts, seriously! Ah well...it was only temporary, and as long as that fact is remembered, it helps things. Nest year, though, I really do hope the adults can all sit together or something, but I guess only time will tell. Present opening soon followed, and of course the little kids had the spotlight first, which was finee with me. I saved and opened my presents after all the mayhem was over.
After givts were open and admired/played with, people soon started leaving. My grandmother, two sisters and I all headed over to my Aunt 'Leen's to visit with her ane our cousins who are down from Virginia, so that was cool. They broght theie new six-month-old puppy, and she was so adorable! I had fun playing with her, and at one point she started to fall asleep in my lap! We also played this electronic Twenty Questions game, and managed to stump it, so that was pretty cool. It was also of course good to see my aunt, uncle and the cousins as well. At some point Momom, Aunt 'Leen, my sisters, perhaps my one cousin and I all need to get together for our yearly food and movie that we do for our Christmas gift.
After visiting my aunt, we were dropped off home, and I've just been hanging out since. Dinner was had a bit ago, and that brings me to now, sitting here writing this while Kristen is watching a movie on TV. I've already seen it, and so has she I think, but it never hurts to watch the same movie again. I think that's pretty much everything that needs said in all honesty. Amazing, I'm actually writing this before 11:59, which was when I was wrigint last year's Christmas wrap-up!
I'm not sure what's on the plate for tomorrow, but at some point this week I think I'm getting together with Peter and we're going to visit Aaron and the family, I especially can't wait to give Aaron his Christmas present! I honestly do like giving things more than I like receiving. I think about all of the people who didn't have a good Christmas this year, and that makes me sad. I wish I could do something for them, but I don't know what to do, and I obviously can't do anything for everyone.
To not leave on a sad note, another awesome thing that's happened this Christmas is that I've reconnected with my closest childhood friend, and that's been very cool. I've been thinking of her a lot lately, and so it was good to actually reconnect with her. I hoep to actually talk to her sometime soon instead of through emails. Alright all, I do think that's about it from here for now. Judging from the look of the Friends' page thus far, it looks like you lot have had good holidays. Take care all, more later. Merry Christmass, and Happy Holidays!
