It's been a few days
Nov. 6th, 2006 09:00 pmI haven't made a formal appearance in here in awhile, so figured I should end that and make one.
The rest of last week since I write was fine more or less. Wednesday was classes and the meetings with both my reader and study group for my Theory of Knowledge class. I met and worked on my project some, but if you listened to my last voice post, you'll know that I wasn't able to finish it. The study group meting went well, too, minus random electric plugs that didn't have power, causing my laptop to go flat as it didn't hyave any more battery and freaking me out a little in its doing so. The warning message that says to switch to outlet power came up, and I plugged it in, and so was surprised when it suddenly turned off and refused to boot up again until I found a properly-powered electric outlet. All was well once that was found, though, which relieved me for sure.
Thursday was the test, which I think went okay, or at least I hope so. I still have the 5-9 double-spaced page paper for that class that needs writing, and I'm hoping that'll help my grade somewhat, not that my grade is horrible in that classk, because I don't think it is. I think, however, that it would help my grade more if it actually started to take form. I know what I'm writing on, and I have a topic, it's actually reading through the slightly longish reading that goes along with the paper and writing the thing that is slightly daunting to me for some reason. I think I may even already have a thesis statement, too, but again, it would help if I actually read the paper and got the writer's take on things since I'm suppose to be presenting and analyzing his argument. Skimming documents really isn't all that possible with Jaws, no matter how you look at it, especially documents you haven't ever read before. It's dooable, but not easily so. Sighted people have it a whole lot easier in that respect, I do honestly believe. The paper will get done, obviously, so why worry about it? I use to worry about getting every little thing done and stress over it, until I adopted the philosophy of just taking every day at a time, and not worrying about things that you can't control or until you have to; things will all get done in their due time and course, and it will all be okay. I actually think that some time this weekend will be set aside for reading the article and at least completing the introduction for said paper. I'll feel really good when I can say that that's been done. Papers are usually a whole lot easier to write once started, it's actually starting them that's the issue, at least with me.
I also had my 2:00 class on Thursday, and that went fine also. After class, I worked on my project some more, spending from around 3:30 in the library to a little before 12, and while I honestly would have liked to have a little more work done to show for myself when I left, at least something had gotten done. Friday was classes, which were fine, and I continued to work on my project. Peter ended up coming down that day as well. The project was submitted with what I could get done , so maybe I'll get at least one point. I truly do think that I didn't get a good grade at all on it, but I hope it won't ruin my grade too badly. If I can end up with a B or even a C in this class, I'll take that and be happy with it, although a B would be preferred. The next assignment was given out, and it's a written one versus a programming project, and those I actually like more for some reason. There's a portion of coding on it, but it isn't as bad as the actual programming projects themselves. I think I have a good understanding of the topic that is covered on this next assignment, too, so I'm hoping for full points as that would redeem me somewhat. It wasn't that I didn't understand the last project, I did for the most part, it just felt like there wasn't enough time to finish it, and some of the concepts that were on it I really don't think we'd gone over in class, and I could have benefited from an explanation. Ah well, what's done is done, no sense dwelling on it. I'm sure things will end up okay, and as long as I continue trying my best for the remainder of the course, (although I don't know why I wouldn't, and which is only about a month more), I should hopefully be fine. I just wish the professor would more coding examples online instead of just on the board,or put up the examples he writes on the board online, because I think that would make that class a whole lot easier to follow for me. It isn't impossible to follow, just slightly difficult sometimes. Unfortunately, the first few questions in this next assignment rely on a drawing that you have to do for the first question, so I need to have help with that before I can actually start things, but that should hopefully be taken care of on Wednesday. The assignment is due on the 13th, and maybe I can get it done before the weekend, or at least have most of it finished.
Saturday morning and into the afternoon was spent doing recording for Icon, and then in later Peter and I were picked up by Kristen to go home for the night. Kathryn's computer is now fully functional again, something I know she truly appreciates. I had more Icon stuff to do that night, and aside from that I just relaxed, hung out and spent time with the family and my boyfriend, all of which I very much enjoyed.
Sunday morning and afternoon was spent being very lazy and not doing a whole lot to tell you the truth. I did manage to get reading done for my Chinese Philosophy class that was to be done for today's class, so that was good. I also got together some information that my Voc Rehab counselor needed and faxed that to her, which was a good thing since I really should have had that done awhile ago. All is well, though, so not to worry. I partly blame its lateness on a busy schedule and not having time to actually sit down and do it, but as I said, though, it's in now, so all is fine.
Sometime in the late afternoon, Kristen drove Peter and I back to campus, and we just hung here and didn't really do too much of anything. I had more Icon stuff to do last evening, but other than that, I don't think I had to do anything else. I had finished all homework, so that was good.
This morning I got up and eventually left for class, as is the usual with me every day. Both classes were fine, and then I ended up coming back to my room and just relaxing for a bit until Peter and I left to get food around four. He had to leave soon after, so by the time we came back, he took his food and left, resolving to eat it on his way out.
I've just spent the past while reading ahead for classes and relaxing. I was laying down awhile ago resting and watching TV, and must have fell asleep, but I figure that's alright. I don't have classes tomorrow due to it being Election Day, which is a good thing because I can then work ahead on things. I have all of the reading done for Chinese Philosophy for the week, and I finished the Theory of Knowledge reading for Thursday, so all I think I need to do is read for Philosophy of Mind and I'm set.
Mom will pick Kristen and I up sometime tomorrow to vote, and I think we'll also go over to my grandparents, which will be good since I haven't seen them in awhile. As for what else, I don't really know. Maybe I'll start scanning one of two books I have tonight and just relax, possibly read some as I haven't actually took time out to read for Me in awhile. I'm thinking I'll do the one last reading I need to do in the morning, leaving me all the rest of the day and night free of other obligations.
Alright, I think that about covers it. I'm sure I'll be back sooner rather than later, or at least I hope so. As tomorrow is Election Day, I encourage all who can to go out and vote. If you don't vote, you have no reason to complain about the state of things. Don't waste your opportunity to make a difference!
