Welcome to the North Pole
Jan. 18th, 2005 02:16 pmHi all:
I apologize for the lack of regular updates, but due to the power outage that Lj suffered, that I had to move in and get settled back here, and with the start of classes, I haven't had much time to write. Now that I actually have some time before class, I can actually sit down and write. I'm also hoping that I'll be able to thaw out in this time, even if it won't really matter because I have to leave and go out in the bloody cold again, to go to class, anyway.
The last few days of break spent at home were nice. I don't think I did anything too exciting, but that's fine with me. We left at around 9:30 or so on Saturday to head back up here, whereupon I unpacked and got all settled back here. Olivia was happy to be back, as was I, which was nice.
Classes started yesterday, and I was very excited and glad about that. I'm probably in the minority over this, but hey, I am a nerd, and so perhaps that just comes with the territory, I don't know. Either way, I think I'm going to have a good semester. My Computer Architecture class is fun, albeit it somewhat visual due to the diagrams and whatnot, but I'll work it out with the professor, so it will be fine. My Intro to Ethics class will also be very amusing and discussion-provoking, or so I, (and probably the professor), hope. We'll be discussing all kinds of ethical/moral issues, and I've always found that profoundly interesting, anyway. That's another thing, the professor did mention that the class would be "profound," or something to that affect. As to actuall how "profound" said class will be, I guess only time will tell as to the level of its profoundness. Hmm, is that even a word? :)
My Logic class should be okay, but I guess only time will tell. I didn't manage to catch the prof after class, (I think he ran out, but he said he had an appointment to get to after class beforehand, anyway), so hopefully I'll talk to him tomorrow. I emailed him, though, so maybe that will suffice. My Java Programming class will be fine, and it'll be even better if I can actually recall much of what I learned in CS1, (three semesters ago), and even better still if I can get Jaws installed on one of the student computers in that particular computer lab, because we'll be doing a lot of work inside of the classroom. Jaws is installed on one of the computers in that room, but it's on the instructor's computer, which really doesn't help too much during actual class time. Ah well, I'm working on arranging a "fix" for that, so we'll see. I'm sure it won't be a problem.
As for my other two classes, I have them today. My first is Personal Essay, (taken with one of my many advisors), and the second class being Religion and Society, (with the same prof who taught me World Religions last year). I greatly like and enjoy both of these professors, so hopefully their classes will be just as likeable and enjoyable. I'll be sure to post my impressions of each after the fact.
I don't have all of my books yet--well okay, so I don't have any of them--but I'm working on that. My Ethics prof has agreed to photocopy what we need to read for this Wednesday, and while I'm thinking about it, maybe I should email him and ask if he wouldn't mind copying the next assignment for me, too. Java doesn't have a book, because it's pretty much all programming. I actually had to go buy one of my Ethics books, but I was able to return it right there, since I'm suppose to be getting an electronic text. Even so, they still need a receipt that I've purchased the book, which I have, I just sold it back, because I'm not going to be using it. They didn't say I had to keep the book, did they? Maybe that was the "small print" at the bottom, I don't know. If I'm suddenly being followed around by strange men in long coats with guns, or if I'm awakened one night to the sound of frantic pounding on my door by the Feds who want to take me away and arrest me for not complying with the law, I guess I'll have my answer. I just hope that if that does happen, I'll be able to somehow find enough money to post bail, because I don't imagine I'd like the alternative too much.
It's also been very very very cold out the past few days accompanied with snow, wind, and whidchill. Not fun, not fun at all. It was so brutal this morning that I was actually able to get a ride from someone from Campus Safety, which was much appreciated, especially by Liv, who really didn't want to walk through the salt. I have booties for her, but I haven't tried working her with them on yet. Perhaps I'll have to do that soon. The cold/snow trend will continue until who knows when. I think it's suppose to be worse tomorrow, I can't wait :). I think wihdchills today were somewhere between 20 and 30 below, and think it will be more of the same tomorrow. I was even forced to get out my gloves, and those fo you who know me well know just how much of a feat that actually is. Believe me, it's rhrhrhrhrhrhrhrhreally freaking cold.
Aside from classes and moving back in, my time has also spent playing Star Conquest, a very fun and addicting/timewasting roleplaying game. The very first night I rolled, I and the few people were helping me got shot at, but I was able to shoot and distract them, so it was all good. It still didn't help too much, but I think the situation is all taken care of now. I think I'll be able to play some more of the game tonight, but that'll depend on homework and the like. I've also been continued reading when time allows, but that isn't anything new.
With that, and because it's almost quarter after two, mayhap I should thinking about finishing this and getting ready, (and the dog ready), to head off to class.
More later, most definitely.
